Ardha Baddha Padma Paschimottanasana
« on: September 14, 2008, 04:31:04 PM »
Hi David - I wonder if you can help...

In ardha baddha padma paschimottanasana, my boyfriend experiences alot of pain in the thigh muscle of his outstretched leg, where the foot of the leg in lotus 'digs in'. He doesn't experience any pain in his knee (in lotus).  Do you have any advice re this - would you recommend that he modifies the pose to e.g. janu sirsasana A, or continue to practice the posture in half lotus?

Many thanks!
Best wishes...

Dear Leah,
Yes, the posture should be modified..."if it hurts you are doing it wrong".  Correct yoga practice increases prana.  Nothing decreases prana more than pain.
Since I can't see what's going on, I can't recommend a particular modification, but you can probably figure that one out.
Aloha,
David
