Ask a Yogi! / Advanced postures
« on: October 04, 2009, 10:54:27 PM »
Aloha David, At 52 I should be content with my 15 years of yoga practice, but, still I yearn to be the strong flexible youngster again, adding one more posture "accomplishment" to my belt.  I know its an ego trip, but when will I listen to you and just go easier on myself. The minute I feel great , I overdo it, not even realizing that I've gone to far, and then need to chill out for a few days.  Why do I find it so important to continue this quest for postures that maybe have left my grasp 3 years ago.  I see great ones like Dharma, still going strong at 70 and refuse to believe my body has limitations.  Hanging out with you for a few days gave me a relief to see a great one who realized he had been there, and done that, and was content with a practice rich with joyful endorphins and void of ego.  How can the ego be so stubborn even in a room alone?  Is it best work through obstacles of the body, or at some point, just go around them?

Ask a Yogi! / Prana

Were you taught about increasing Prana in early Mysore days?  Did you understand at that time or did realization come with practice and observation?

Hi David,
I brought a friend, a newbie yoga teacher, to your workshop for the Thursday night discussion.  The 75 minute ride into NY was a constant flow of her questions and problems.  She was unsure of her own ability, in teaching, and other things. We sat in awe and listened to your words.
The ride home after your workshop was silence.  She contacted me the next morning to tell me how clear it all became to her.   Not just asana practice, but how to apply yoga to her other problems.

Once again you are the jungle physician. Even your words are healing.

Aloha, until next time!

Ask a Yogi! / Breathing while teaching
« on: May 06, 2008, 05:52:14 PM »
Hi David,
I find myself in ujjayi breathing to stay with the count of the students while leading, and also to remind them to breath.
Then I'm exhausted  from deep breathing for an hour and a half!  Is this method what other teachers do, or did I just pick it up at a workshop and hold onto it??  I always feel drained, like I need a savanana myself after teaching.

Whats a yogi to do?

You will never go to another "work" shop.  David completes the yoga puzzle and finally satisfies the endless search for truth and wisdom.  Truly an enlightening breath.
